FAQ
WHEN WILL YOU BE OPEN?
We are asked this on a daily basis. We are "open" if we are here, which is most of the time. We are always happy to meet people, especially if they would like to buy some bottles from us. We have a license to sell our bottled beer from the door of the brewery. When we are not brewing, cleaning, bottling, casking, delivering and doing paper work, we will stop and give you a keek in the door and you can tell us where you are from, what brings you here and talk about beer and anything else really. Afternoons are better for a visit as we are generally busy brewing in the morning. There is a wifi bell in the porch of the brewery/chapel so you can attract our attention, if we haven't seen you first.
WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR BEER?
Our beer is available from us at the brewery, or the Knoydart Foundation shop, Knoydart Village Hall at licensed events and also at River Cottage in Knoydart and The Tea Garden in Mallaig, The Look Out Restaurant, Knoydart. Vegan Tipples, Edinburgh. Also in cask now at The Old Forge pub, Knoydart.
WHAT KIND OF BEERS DO YOU BREW?
Our launch beer is a session strength pale ale, akin to a best bitter. It is lightly hopped with well-balanced maltiness and fruit flavour. In contrast our second beer is a blonde ale brewed in the SMaSH style (Single Malt and Single Hop) and we occasionally produce one-off seasonal specials including NEIPA (New England IPA), oatmeal stout, american amber ale. We have added an IPA, lager, a pale ale and a porter to our regular range. All our bottled beers are unfined and unfiltered which means they are vegan friendly. We generally brew traditional beers but also like to do Special Editions when we are able to offer something different. You will find our cask ales in the Old Forge pub here in Knoydart.
WHERE IS YOUR BREWERY LOCATED?
Knoydart is a remote peninsula on the mainland in the highlands of Scotland. There are no road links so access is by ferry boat from nearby Mallaig or on foot over mountain passes. This adds to the challenge of running a brewery, or any business, as everything arrives by boat, in all weathers.
